Gulls amuse Young Gannet

Flicking bread to  the noisy  gulls  provide  real  amusement  for  our  young  flying  fisherbird.  He  flew  off
 to  go  fishing  three times  and  returned  three  times  to  ponder  me  and  the  gulls.  Pretty  boy!

Gannet Bolt is amused

Mr.  friendly  went  fishing  and  then  came  back  for  amusement  value  with  me  and  the  gulls.
Canon  T2i  with  Tamron  70 -300  F4  at  around  200mm.  DOF  surprised  me  on TV  of 500.    Lots  of  sunlight.  Nice  sharp  focus bolt  included for  free. I  thought  the  bolt  would  be  very  soft ..  Live  and learn..eh?

Fanny Bay Surprise

Sea Lions  were  expected,  as  someone  clued  me  in  about  them.  The  surprise  was  the  new  alloy  steel  and  aluminium  mesh  ramp  and  dock.  Very  modern  and  speaks  to  our  growing  marine  seafoods  industry.  Most  images   using  a Tamron  70 - 300mm  & Canon T2i.  Datestamp photos are Kodak Z980 point & zoom..24X

Fanny Bay Lions

Sea Lions  galore  on  the  booms  down  at  Fanny Bay.  Just last Sunday Feb. 25/12.  No  need  for  a  boat to  get  close  to  these  heavy-weights.  There  is  a  ferry  sitting  there too.  Wonder  what's  up?     Click  on this  photo  and  feel  the  weight  of  these  monsters.

Lafarge Sunrise photo zone

Lafarge on Dyke Road, [where  the  old  cement  silo  used  to  be], provides  a  fair  frame  for  a  break of  day  photo..  This  frame  is  even  better  when  the  local  canoe  extends  out  beyond  the  fence.  Most  of  the  water  birds  in  this  blog  were  photosnapped  here.  Kodak Z980  point  and  shoot  camera.

Euro Starling

These  starlings  are  always  perky  and  swarm  into  Lafarge  near  the  lookout  on  Dyke  road  two  or  three  times  daily.  Often  they  arrive  in  the  company  of  Redwings  and  grackles.  All the  more  colourful  and  interesting  when  one  looks  more  carefully.  Not  to  be  taken  for  granted.

Soft but artistic...eh?

The $500  Tamron 70-300 AF is  pretty good,  however  the  70-300  Canon  L lens  would  have  nailed  this  fast  focus  easily.  Only  a mere  $1200 more.

Flicker is a pretty Pecker

I 'wolf-whistled'  with two  fingers  and  slowly  flapped  my  arms. [while  no  one  was  looking].  Young  fun-loving  eagle  played  along,  and  with  big  wings  hitting  branches,  he  made  a  mock  dive  right  for  me.   He then  soared  up  into  the  sun.  A  common  eagle  trick.  He  knows  you  can't  see  him  in  the  brilliant  sunlight.
