Downy Pecker
They  tell  me  this  is  a  downy.
Is that correct?
Guess I should look it up but time is pressing right now.

Bee Thinking
He  hovered  a  bit  as  though  thinking  so  I   snapped  him  as  a  reflex  action.  Glad  it  turned  out  well.  Not  planned  at  all.
Bloom and Bud
This  is  a  bloom  that  grows  on  a  medium  size  tree.  Taken  at  an  old  truck  garden  farm  that  once  fed  loggers  and  miners  in  Cumberland  years  ago.   This  may  not  be  all  that  common.  I  don't  know  the  name  of  it.  Do you?
Buck nibbles fruit tree buds
This  is  the  same  buck  munching  buds  on  a  fruit  tree  in  Comox.  Antlers  in  velvet  are  not  always  even.
Deer is quizzical
Deer  in  Comox  are  sometimes  odd.  This  one  seems  to  ask...  Do  I  know  you ?  I  thought  he  may  leave  stage  left,  but  he  just  turned  and  started  nibbling  on  fruit  tree  buds.
PS: Don't mind the nipped antler. The buck felt no pain. I should have waited for that right ear to show though.

Killdeer..broken wing faker
Notice  the  peculiar  feathering  along  the  wing  edge.   Cloudy  day  fails  to  bring  out  the  eye  luster.   Still,  not  a  bad  image.

Flicker & Dark Head
Flicker  normally  have  a  light  grey  head.  Not  sure  why  this  one  is  so  dark.  Some  bird  pro  on  ePhotoZine.com  will  probably  have  an  answer  for  this.  There  are  Flicker  close-ups  earlier  in  this  blog  for  comparison.  TG
Owl and Crab meat
This  is  a  more  normal  view  of  the  owl's  face.   He  sure  is  happy  to  chow  down  on  crab  meat.  The  robins  were  hounding  him  but  he  didn't  do  much  except  to  move  off  to  another  branch.  The  light  in  this  dark  bush  is  next  to  impossible.  TG
Owl Dinner [Lobster?]
The owl was eating what seemed like a small lobster. The
Robins were raising a big noisy fuss and followed the owl
with his supper as the owl tried to evade them. This 'fuss' drew in other curious birds. Piliated woodpecker,
Downy, Western Tananger, Chipping sparrow and Bewick Wren. TG

Damselfly Blues
Blues  because  there  were  several  of  these  new  hatchlings  flying about.  About  1/3  the  size  of  an  adult.  Sewing  needle  size.  See  the  two  tiny  diamonds  in  the  wing tips?

Kingfish seriously
Kingfish  on  the  gunnel  with  black  hull  and  wharf  background.
Seriously drowsy on this hot afternoon.

Kingfish Cooling
In  this  not  so  flattering  image,  Kingfish  shows  us  his  diving  lens  and  how  he  cools  down  in  the  hot  sun  with  mouth  open.
Kingfish on Rope
Kingfish  lounges  for  a  3pm  afternoon  rest  on  the  luxurious  mooring  rope  for  a  black  yacht.  Thus  the  background.

Mafia X Three
These  guys  just  blew  in  looking  tough  as  they  wait  to  approach   waste  salmon  parts  left  over  from  smoking  salmon  steaks.  There  will  be  salmon  theft.
Waxwing..Mr Slick & Dandy
This  is  the  Cedar  Waxwing  at  normal  high  alert  99%  of  the  time,  yet   occaisionally  they  do  relax  and  fluff  up  to  groom  and  primp  as  the  next  post  will  prove.  Love  those  red  wing  dots.  Who  designs  these  birds  anyway?  Wow!
Waxwing Fluffed and Relaxed
Waxwings are fairly high strung and alert birds. This cedar
wax ham is annoyed with my proximity [ raised crown ], but he
is oddly at ease, fluffing and grooming at the same time.
You can see the red wing dots and yellow dipped tail.
Normally they are tightly feathered, sleek and ready for
flight. TG

Finch, cloud and rain
Here  is  the  same  finch at  a  different  angle.  Almost  looks  like  a  different  bird.  Here  you  can  see  the  falling  rain  as  white  spots  and  streaks.  Of  several  shots  only  a  few  had  any eye  highlights. TG
Finch in Rain
Went  out  in  the  grey  rain  this  morning  with  the  intent  to  get  an  image.   Did  a  little  better  than  expected.  Mr.  Red  made  only  one  visit  for  sunflower  seed  but  stayed  long  enough  for  several  photos.  Had  to  dial  up  light  level  a  bit  so  the  greyed wood  and  seed  are  washed  out.  Not  a  fatal  loss.  TG
