Snow  geese  are  heavy  and  push  a  lot  of  water  as  they  arrive.

1/4"  to  touch  down.   This  goose  is  HEAVY.   Moves  a  lot  of  water  as  it  settles  in.

Comox Glacier Prime Time

Comox  glacier  overlooks  the  Comox  delta  where  most  of  these  images  are  taken.  Winter  home  of  the  Trumpeter  Swans  in  the  hundreds.  They  mooch  around  on  local  farm  fields  as  well   as  flying  to  and  from  our   Comox  salt  water  delta.   Mergansers  are  our  second  mascot.  Eagles  are  the  third  and  we  welcome  turkey  vultures  as  well.

Longtail Duck Junior

These  are  sort  of  a  mystery  duck.   They  seem  to  fish  in  deep  water.  I  do  see  the  seagulls  stealing  from  them  often.   Their  markings  and  design  scheme  change  a  LOT  as  they  grow.

A  kayaker  came  by   so  all  had  to  go,  but  they  went  around  and  came  back   to  poke  through  the  reeds  again.

Barrows Golden eye,  scaup,   female  buffle head,....and  that  rufus  headed  thingy.

Seals Share and Smile

Seals share and smile doing it. They seem so good, tolerant and civilized. Seals swim around and under us and the kids at the beach but never take a bite. Ever think about that?

Plane in the Rain

This  Nov/25th  morning  is  dark  and  raining  as  you  can  see  in  the  plane  image.  Still,  I  did  get  some  Cormorant  and  Longtail  photos  after  the  not  so  noisy  plane  passed  by.  Ducks  and  geese  were  not  too  disturbed.   Also  got  some  trumpeters  in  flight  at  Lewis  park  yesterday.   Full  of  ducks  there  in  the AM.

Cormorant Light

Dark  rainy  day  morning   yet  you  can  still  see  the  light  front  comparison  here.  You  need  at  least  some  sun  to  show  the  emerald  green  eye  of  these  good  looking  birds.  The  light  fronted  one  is  probably  younger.

Loungtail Junior

Here  is  one  looking  somewhat  different  again.  Seems  like  they  dive  in  the  deep  for  fish  quite  often.  Not  as  pro  as  the  untimate  fisher I  suspect;..the  merganser.
....This  was  a  grey  rainy  day  but  images  are  still  there  only  the  eye  highlights  tend  to  be  missing.  TG

Cormorant Three

These  three  cormorant  have  a  routine  visit  to  Lafarge  every  morning  around  10am.   They  were  tight  under  the  pilings  so  a  bit  of  post  in  the  lower  right  corner.   Interesting  thing  here  is,  two  have  light  fronts.   Young  ones  I'm  guessing.  Mom  and  kids?

Old Sq...Ooops Longtail

As  these  young  longtail  grow  through  their  teens  there  are  very  many  differences  in  looks  from  week  to  week.

Trumpeter Signet

Recently  I  learned  that  this  is  North  America's  largest  bird.  The  can  weigh  in  at  35  pounds  and   their  wingspan  can  be  up  to  eight  feet  across.  Surprised  me.     And  to  think  they  choose  to  winter  over  in  farm  fields   only  a  half  mile  from  where  I  live  here  in  Courtenay /  Comox.    Lucky  us....eh?

Sparrow - White Crowned

He  is  a  common  Sparrow  around  Courtenay / Comox  but  I  liked  the  plain  cloudy  day  water  background.  What  looks  like  a  paper  shadow  is  an  old  pylon  in  the  water. 

Jumping [German?] Tiny

Tiny,  here,  with  the  German  falcon  emblem  on  his  head  was  a  tickle  on  my  arm.  Smaller  than  a  green pea.   I  put  him  down  on  the  black   1 1/2"   handrail  along  the  river  at  Lewis  park.  Could  I  get  a  macro  with  this  klunky   70 - 300mm  f4  glass?   Well....just  barely.  Cute  little  rascal  soaking  up  heat  from  the  handrail.

Turkey..Mr. Wrinkles

Here  is  a  young  turkey  in  his  prime.  Not  a  thanksgiving  turkey..[yuk!],  but  a  janitor  turkey  who  does  a  wonderful  clean up  job  for  us  every  day  and  does  it  for  free!   Hope  Monsanto  chemicals  do  not  reach  these  birds  like  they  hit  our  honey  bees.   If  that  happens  we  will  be  knee  deep  in  serious  Kaka.
PS:  Steve,  They  finally  discovered  the  fish  cleanings.  I  hope  you  get  some  shots  in.  TG
