Mountain Forest Oddity

This  at  first  glance  looks  like  a  mountainside  of  red  seedlings.  It  is  of  course  a  moss  miniature  on a  rock.  Wonder  what  those  red  plants  are  called.  If  you  know, leave  a  note  in  the  comments.
