Fish Chomp!

Does  that  long  tail  seem  heavy  at  the  base?  There  are  lots  of  teeth  in  this  bite.  Webbed  hands  hold  the  fish  just  as  we  would.  Not  your  ordinary rolly  poly  dark  brown  otter,...  Part  of  a  family  of  five  or  six.

Tough Guys?

These  are  not  your  ordinary  playful  chocolate  smiley  otter.  They  seem  to  be  a  heavy  duty  version  of  otter.  I  closed  in  to  these  while  they  were  eating  a  fish  on  the  rocks  at  Kin  Beach  in  Comox.

Teeth Power

Junior  shares  a  secret  with  Mom, left  corner,  while  a  brother  gnaws  on  fish  above  and  big  sister  gives  me  the quizzical look.  Notice  the  long  skinny  and  powerful  tail.  Quite  thick  at  the  base  though.

Mom & Kids?

These  otter  are  larger  than  the  more  familiar  chocolate  brown  sea  otter.  This  family  was  finishing  up  fish  dinner  when  I  inched  my  way  along  the  beach  rocks.  

Spotted SandPiper..

Looked  this  one  up  and  aside  from  the  winter  white  breast  in  July,  it  does  seem  to  check  as  a  spotted  sandpiper.  Seems  to  like  that  black  beach  oooze.

My good luck.  Arrived  early.  Looked  over  a  steep  concrete  shore  wall  and  suddenly  I  had  a  ' bird's  eye '  view.  My  good  shot  for  the  day  ...early  am.  Odd,...greenish  legs  and  a  winter  breast  in  July?

Star Curiosity

This  one  seems  a  little  different.  Do  you  recall  this  star  fish.  First  one  like  this  for  me.  Maybe  I  just  have  not  been  paying  attention.

Eagle Leaving

So  a  flight  around  this  little  bay  before  leaving  for  the  fish  plant  and  chances  of  fish  food.

Eagle Eyes

These  two  were  just  looking  around  and  not  much  else.  Finally  they  few  a  few  circles  and  then  left  for  Portugese  Joe's  Fish  processing  place  further  up  this  [ Dyke ]  road.

Eagle not at all bald

Bald  eagles,  but  just  an  error  on  our  pioneer's   part.  Never  ever  saw  a  really  bald  eagle.

Heron & Gunnel Fish

Heron  eat  these  plentiful  gunnel  fish  all  day  long  and  never  seem  to  get  fat.  Hummm.

Weed on Post

The  fickle  winds  of  fate  and  fortune  blew  a  seed  onto  this  old  post  in  the  ocean.  Seems  to  be  enjoying  life.  No  tree  could  choke  out  the  sunlight.

One ' Expert'  suggests  this  is  the  result  of  an  air born  battle  during  spring  mating  fights.
