Stop Pulling my Tail

Every  time  Eagle  junior  got  munching  on  lunch,  this  pesky  crow  pulled  his  tail   hoping  to  divert  his  attention  so  as  to  steal  some  lunch.

Sapsucker Yellow bellied but very brave

A  looong  shot.   This  one  was  a   loner  and  showed  me  distrust  from  a  long  way  off.   These  are  all  over  North  America  yet  there  seem  to  be  few  images  uploaded.  Evasive Survivors!!

Lunchtime scramble

Mergansers,..  seldom motivated,  can  sometimes  look  very  motivated.

Dash for Lunch

Mergansers  are  usually  very  reserved.   I  befriended  a  few  and  they  are  now  expressive.

Comox Glacier with contrast

This  scene  is  usually  too  soft.  One  must  dial  things  up  and  down  to  get  this  contrast.

Classic in the rain

Old  colours  showed  up  more  clearly  in  the  cool  drizzle  rain.

Chick on a Cone

Chickadees  are  often  upside down  on  these  cones.

Redwing Bluster

Mr.  Red  wants  to  intimidate  and  impress.   Sadly,  no  one  seems  to  defer  very  much.

This  is  a  looong  shot.   He  just  did  not  want  to  be friendly

Trumpeter wingspan

Trumpeters  can  make  quite  a  shadow  when  passing  overhead.

Trumpeters and Cackling geese

White  fronted  geese  moved  in  with  the  trumpeter  swans  this  winter.  Due  to  their  call  the  nickname  is   ' cackling  geese '.

White winged scoter

This  is  a  white winged  scoter.   Not  the  name I  would  have  chosen.  Amazing,  but  these  guys  eat  and  digest  the  whole  clam,...shell  and  all.

These  are  Brandt.  Just  one  more  of  the  best  formally  dressed  marine  birds.  

Stellar Jay with cubes

Finally!!  Just  the  right  cloudy  light  so  the  cubes  on  his  back  do  not  wash  out.

Clam  snack  for  the  Scaup.  Good  diet  He  looks  to  be  in  prime  condition.

Looks  like  the  female,  however  I  think  this  is  Redwing  esquire.

Sometimes  the  answer  is...'NO,  you  can  not  squat  up  here.

Oyster Catcher

Never  saw  one  chase  an  oyster  much  less  actually  catch  one.  I  think  they  need  SPF  50  for  those  pale  pink  legs.

Jump for Lunch

Jumping  for Lunch.   They  got  to  know  me.  It  takes  months.

A  scramble  for lunch  treats.  Not  so  distant  and  aloof  when  food  is  involved.

Now  we  call  these  ' Longtail '.  The  old  squaw  label  is  rude  and  incorrect.

Amazing reflex

This  fellow  is  at  the  far  end  of  a  bench  I  am  sitting  at.   Because  of  a  very  dull  day,  the  shutter  speed  is  quite  slow;  almost  a  double  click.   This  is  an  image  of  the  reflex  to  the  shutter  noise.   Now  that  is   a  fast  response.
